Car Hoist Lift Installation: DIY or Hire a Pro?

News 12/12/2024

Alright, let’s talk about them car hoists, you know, the things that lift up your car. I seen ’em in the city, them fancy garages got ’em. But you know, even us country folk can use ’em, especially if you got a bunch of cars like my son-in-law. He’s always tinkering with them old beaters.

First off, you gotta figure out if you got enough space. Them car hoists, they ain’t small. You need a good chunk of floor space, like, enough for one car at least. And the roof gotta be high, real high, like 10 feet at least, maybe even more, like 11 or 12 feet. My barn, well, it might just work if I clear out all them old tools and that pile of hay.

  • Space: Gotta have enough room for the car and the hoist itself.
  • Height: Ceiling gotta be high, real high, think taller than your tractor.

Now, there’s different kinds of hoists, I hear. Some lift the whole car up, some just lift one end. For us regular folks, the ones that lift the whole car probably better, you know, for changing the oil or fixing a flat. My grandson, he’s always talkin’ about changing the oil himself, saving a few bucks. Maybe one of these hoists would keep him outta trouble.

You can get them hoists that you gotta dig into the floor, but that sounds like a lot of work. The ones you just put on the floor, them seem easier. And make sure it can lift your car, you know. A little car don’t weigh as much as a big ol’ truck. My neighbor, he got a truck that weighs more than my whole house!

Putting it in, well, that ain’t no easy job, I reckon. You gotta make sure it’s put in right, or else that car gonna come crashing down, and nobody wants that. If you ain’t too handy, like my husband was, God rest his soul, you better get someone who knows what they’re doin’ to put it in. Professional installers, they call ’em. They know how to make sure it’s safe and all.

And after they put it in, you gotta test it out, make sure it works right. Lift it up a little, then a little more, you know, just to be sure. Don’t wanna go lifting it all the way up right away and then somethin’ breaks.

Now, why would you want one of these things anyway? Well, if you’re always workin’ on your cars, it sure beats crawlin’ around on the ground, that’s for sure. My back ain’t what it used to be, and getting under that car is a pain in the neck, literally. And no more of them jacks, you know, the things you gotta crank and crank. Them hoists, they just lift the car right up, easy peasy. Makes car maintenance a whole lot easier, I tell ya.

So, if you got the space and the money, and you do a lot of work on your cars, a car hoist might just be the thing for ya. Just make sure you get the right one, get it put in right, and test it out good before you go climbin’ underneath that car.

And remember, safety first! Don’t want anyone getting hurt. That’s the most important thing.
